Every year on 1 August, Marine Protected Areas Day invites the world to celebrate the ocean spaces that keep our seas alive. 

This year, under the theme "Ocean Protection Needs Human Connection," we asked a simple question: what does the ocean mean to you? What you see here is the answer.

Creative Waves is our annual celebration of the art, photography, film, poetry, and creativity that the ocean inspires. These works were created by people from around the world who share one thing in common: a love for the sea and a belief that protecting it begins with feeling something for it.
